¿Es necesario un código de conducta?

He leído en Barrapunto una referencia de Slashdot sobre el debate que se ha originado en la blogosfera a partir de la propuesta de O’Reilly (Padre del concepto Web 2.0) seguida por Wales (fundador de la Wikipedia) para la creación de un código de conducta (a una guía de buenas prácticas) al crear y moderar un blog. Siguiendo alguno de los links se puede ver que la cuestión no ha dejado indiferente a nadie.

El problema surge en torno a la falta de control que un blogger tiene sobre los comentarios que dejan los usuarios en su blog y, especialmente, en torno al anonimato del autor de los mismos. De hecho la polémica que ha llevado a la creación de esta propuesta surge debido al acoso y las continuas amenazas sufridas por Kathy Sierra una conocida blogger y amiga personal de O’Reilly

En la jurisprudencia Norteamericana ya existen precedentes de casos en los que bloggers han sido juzgados y posteriormente absueltos por comentarios ofensivos, mal intencionados, difamatorios o realizados con el simple objetivo de hacer daño a la persona objeto de sus iras. Si tenéis interés podéis leer algo sobre este tema en la web de la EFF (Electronice Frontier Foundation) en torno a la denominada Sección 230 que hace referencia a una ley federal que protegería al propietario de un site sobre posible reclamaciones realizadas por los contenidos realizados por terceras partes.

El principal escollo con el que se encuentra esta iniciativa es la sensación de muchos bloggers de que intentar controlar determinados comentarios por su contenido puede abrir la puerta a la censura de un medio del que una de los mayores valores es su transparencia y libertad. Por ejemplo Robert Schoble, un influyente blogger en el mundo tecnológico afirma que este código le hace sentirse incómodo: “como escritor, me hace sentir como si viviera en Irán”

Quizá la orientación elegida por los autores de esta iniciativa no sea la más adecuada. A lo mejor han sido demasiado ambiciosos y han llevado demasiado lejos el alcance de la misma. Pero, personalmente, me parece que la existencia de un código de buenas prácticas que establezca nuestra posición como bloggers ante el contenido que alojamos en nuestra web, sea generado por nosotros o por nuestros lectores, con el fin de garantizar un cierto nivel de civismo y respeto no tiene necesariamente que convertirse en censura. Quizá el mejor código sea el que cada autor decida en base a sus principios y valores. Puede que la blogosfera halla llegado a tener tantas caras que un solo código no se válido para todos.

La verdad es que lo lógico es que, si el blog es tuyo, seas tú mismo el que marque el código de conducta o de etiqueta que quieras que sigan tanto tus artículos como los comentarios que se publiquen en tu blog. Un blog ha pasado a ser parte de uno mismo y como tal, en él se tiene que poder expresar y permitir lo que uno quiera y no lo que un "wikipédico" y un "dospuntocero" quieran.

No puedo estar más de acuerdo contigo, sin embargo me parece interesante que existan iniciativas que promuevan ideas sobre las que construir códigos. La importancia que se le da a esta iniciativa en concreto está en la relevancia de sus creadores. Este es un medio libre y cada cual hará su apropiación de esas ideas para crear su propio código, pero seguro que finalmente habrá cierta normativización que será más o menos común a una parte relevante de la blogosfera como puede ser por ejemplo la permisividad ante determinados tonos que en ocasiones llegan a niveles inaceptables donde determinados usuarios llegan a amenazar y perseguir al blogger amparados por el anonimato. Y esto tampoco me parece que sea aceptable.

Buenas. Me parece muy interesante el artículo y estoy de acuerdo con el comentario de JMGH. Aunque pienso que se ha de trabajar en este camino, pero no para poder "regular" los comentarios sino para que el medio sea utilizado desde la responsabilidad. Ya sé, puede parecer utópico pero a mí la palabra censura es la primera que se me viene al oir noticias como estas. Además los estadounidenses (me refiero a los medios y a los poderes comunicativos, claro) son muy dados a "interpretar" como ellos quieren. Además, el artículo lo dice bien claro: "la creación de esta propuesta surge debido al acoso y las continuas amenazas sufridas por Kathy Sierra una conocida blogger y amiga personal de O’Reilly" me parece loable que quiera lo mejor para los suyos (y por supuesto no acepto ningún tipo de amenazas ni represalias de ningún tipo en los blogs) pero que una propuesta de este calibre, que además proviene de alguien importante en esta materia, surja porque se hayan metido con su amiga... a mí me parece el comienzo de algo bastante "turbio" por lo menos. un saludo.

Lamentablemente el caso de acoso no es exclusivo de Kathy Sierra, hace unos días el considerado primer blogger (Dave Winer) anunciaba que abandonaba su blog en los próximos días después de haber cumplido 10 años el pasado mes de abril. Y uno de los motivos era, según sus declaraciones, que no se sentía cómodo con el carácter de figura pública que, aparentemente, le había empezado a generar algunos problemas en ese mismo sentido y deseaba recuperar cierta privacidad. Lo cierto es que al principio el movimiento blogger gozaba de cierta normativización no escrita en la que era muy improbable que ocurriera esto, incluso en caso de que ocurriera eran los propios bloggers los que ejercían ciertto control para el buen uso del medio, defendiendo su transparencia y la independencia de los autores. La blogosfera ha alcanzado tal dimensión que resulta inabarcable. Es responsabilidad de cada uno de nosotros defender un uso responsable y bajo una cierta ética en el espacio del que somos dueños.
